Many of the area’s attractions are within walking distance – there is ample car parking within the hotel grounds. Further afield, sailing, water skiing and canoeing can be arranged. The local beaches provide safe bathing for families (excellent surfing and windsurfing, tuition available if required). There is first class sea, river and reservoir fishing nearby; deep sea fishing trips can be taken from Appledore. The splendid Rosemoor Gardens – local headquarters of the Royal Horticultural Society – are a must, with their 40 acres of planting incorporating many special features.

Dartington Crystal offers a wonderful insight into the manufacturing and blowing of dazzling glassware, and some unique pieces can be purchased at their gift shop. Explore the famous Tarka trail at your own pace by bicycle. (Good quality mountain bikes for hire locally). Enjoy a round or two of golf at concessionary rates at The Royal North Devon Golf Club, England’s oldest links course.
